I'm Not All Talk...

I talk about airplanes a lot. Maybe its because I work at Boeing. Maybe I just like flying. Maybe its because I grew up around them. Who knows? but, since I can remember, my family has gone through about 8 different airplanes at one time or another. When I was in high school, I soloed a sailplane and also a Citabria. I also passed the Private Pilots' Written Exam. But, do I have my pilot's license? Nope. In typical angsty teenager fashion, I decided that hanging out with my friends was more important/fun.
Yesterday I finally got back on track to getting my pilot's license. I am buying an airplane. A Cessna 140. One of my dad's friends is selling it me, so we found out about it before it went on the market. Apparently its pretty ugly on the outside (I haven't seen it yet), but mechanically its very sound and has a low-time engine in it. Anyways... I'm really excited about it.

On another note, my friend and I were trying to think of some funny "Web 2.0" domain names. My laundry hamper happened to be in my room, so we looked at it and check for "hampr.com." Low-and-behold, its already taken... and it could definitely be considered a Web 2.0 product. It might be kind of a funny experiment to see how many domain names have be registered with similar names i.e. flickr.com, zooomr.com, isolatr.com, etc. Hampr.com actually kind of cool looking... but I think del.icio.us and blue.us have it licked.

-- Update --
I saw a picture of the plane... and its actually not ugly at all!

Hey Adam,

First of all, congratulations on taking steps to get your pilots' license. I've always wanted to do the same but finding the time and the cash to do it has been elusive. It's in my future though, of that much I am sure.

As someone trying to get Blue.Us out to the masses, I was wondering what you meant by the fact taht we and del.icio.us had it licked? Did you mean that our names are strange (which I will easily grant) or that we were doing a good job? Enquiring minds want to know...

Thanks for throwing our little syndicated Dot widget on your blog. It looks great! I hope you're enjoying Dotting. We're working hard to make our product and unique and valuable. Feel free to let us know how we can do even more.

I was just saying that I think del.icio.us and blue.us have better, more refined products. I haven't used del.icio.us much... but I know its decent (decent enough to get bought by Yahoo!).
I do have fun dotting... but, I'm an infowhore, and hate when I miss an interesting article. :-)

Adam *is* an infowhore, I can vouch for it!

Well infowhore, drop by Pioneer Square some evening and I'll take you out for a pint and get your ideas on how to make the product better. Seriously. We're working on the next wave of the product and want to make sure that you don't miss the things you want to see. We have some ideas but I'd love to get your feedback before I start showing our hand...

Kabir wants to come along as well. Maybe Nikki can come and we'll have a mini-party. ;^)

So cool that you can fly--it seems really scary but also so thrilling...

Hey, I just found your blog by way of Google... I'm the one who owns hampr.com, and the idea came basically in the same way it came to you. I had been using the "My Bookmarks" app I wrote for awhile, and we were joking about "Web 2.0" on IRC. I grepped through a dictionary file for words that ended in -er and started checking availablility. A lot of the good ones were taken, but I found hampr.com and registered it.
